What is
"Monotone Screaming?"
Monotone Screaming is my screen name and pseudonym. This name comes from one of my first large art projects, also known as Monotone Screaming. This piece was a, and hear me out, six foot tall furby... let me explain!
So yes, I based my brand around an obscure toy from the late 80's, but there's a story here to tell.
The Legacy
I eventually got Monotone Screaming back and have since brought him to theatre events, conventions, and many other weird places. He currently lives in my college dorm, wrapped around a floor lamp, staring directly at the door to freak out unsuspecting visitors. I changed my brand name and screen name to Monotone Screaming (or some variation of it) and eventually based my branding on the whimsical and inane art piece that changed my life and inspires me even today. It reminds me to not take things so seriously and to express my truest version of myself because without my weird love of 80s toys and willingness to try something weird and new, I wouldn't be who I am today.
The Creature
With the help of my mother and numerous sketchy eBay purchases, I was able to cut and sew 6 feet of patterned fabric and fake white fur together into a tube. With a lot of hand sewing and fudging the process, it would make a fashion designer cry. I finished my horrible/adorable (both?) creation just as I started my freshman year of high school. I brought it to school halfway through the year and kept it in the art classroom for the next few days so it wouldn't get dirty. That was in March of 2020, and we all know what happened next. Monotone Screaming stayed in the art classroom for 6 months during COVID-19. While the world learned important lessons about mental health and safety, poor Monotone sat alone, only occasionally seeing a greatly confused and most likely horrified janitor as they made my high school a safe place.
